Safety Tips for Parents

What are the most important things a parent should tell a child about this issue?

1. Children should always get permission from their you before they leave their house or go anywhere alone.

2. Children should always take a friend or responsible adult when they go play outside.

3. It’s okay to say "Don't cross my zone!" if someone tries to touch them or makes them feel uncomfortable or scared – and to run and yell for help.

4. Children should always tell their parents or trusted adult if they are ever touched or find themselves in a situation that made them feel uncomfortable or scared.

5. You need to talk to your child and let them know that it is not their fault and that they have a right to be safe. Tell them that you or a trusted adult will always be there to listen and help.
